Practical guide
How to connect an iPhone or iPad to a DICOMweb PACS
Ask your PACS administrator for the server URL, DICOMweb path, permitted authentication and any VPN requirement. Add the connection in Ossidex, search the archive and download a permitted study. A patient portal login page or a classic DIMSE AE title is not a DICOMweb endpoint. Ossidex searches and downloads; it does not upload studies back to PACS.
Get the connection details before setup
- Server URL and the separate DICOMweb path as supplied by the administrator; avoid repeating the path in both fields.
- QIDO-RS search and WADO-RS retrieval enabled for your account.
- The permitted sign-in method. For OAuth, also obtain the authorization and token endpoints, client ID, scope and configured redirect URI.
- Whether you need the organisation’s network or VPN and a trusted HTTPS certificate.
Add, search and download
- Add the server. Open PACS in Ossidex and add a named connection. Enter Server URL and DICOMweb path exactly as provided, then select the authentication type.
- Complete sign-in. Use your authorised credentials. If OAuth is configured, follow the sign-in flow when searching. Connect to the required network or VPN first.
- Find a permitted study. Run a search with the filters available in the app. Confirm the expected study rather than downloading an unrelated result.
- Download and verify. Download the study, wait for import and open its series. Check that the expected images are present. After import, the local study can be reopened offline.
If search or download fails
| Symptom | Check with your administrator |
|---|---|
| 404 or a portal web page | The server base URL and DICOMweb path; a portal page is not the archive API. |
| 401/403 | Authentication, account permissions and allowed study access. |
| Search works, download fails | WADO retrieval access, the returned data and any reverse-proxy limits. |
| Cannot reach the server | VPN/network reachability and HTTPS certificate trust. |
A failed request is not a reason to disable authentication or share a password with support. Send the error, app version and non-secret connection details. The first three PACS study downloads are free; unlimited downloads require Pro.
Frequently asked questions
Can I configure only an AE title and DIMSE port?
No. Ossidex uses DICOMweb QIDO-RS/WADO-RS, not classic C-FIND/C-MOVE. Ask whether a DICOMweb gateway is available.
Does signing into the patient portal connect the PACS?
Not necessarily. The portal and DICOMweb service can use different addresses, permissions and authentication.
